Take a minute and watch today's character circle message. We get a special shout out from Rusty! So cool!
Today in SS we traveled by boat to Florida with our tour guide, Mr. Davis. He took us through the Florida Everglades. We got to hear all the different birds. Wow! We also traveled up the coastline to the Kennedy Space Center. We got to hear the space shuttle take off. That was LOUD!! We also heard one more sound in Florida. I am wondering if anyone can remember. Write the sound in your child's planner for an extra $50 tomorrow. Our last stop today was in Jamestown, Virginia. It was one of the first colonies. We played a game that showed us how hard it was to survive there. Ask your child if they were able to survive or if they died in the game. What did they die of? Write down what they say, and they will earn $50 tomorrow as well. I have some pretty funny pictures that I will post soon of them playing the game.
We have started the first step in our double digit multiplication process. We are doing problems like 45 x 5. Kids have to take it one place value at a time. They seem to be getting them, and again i am impressed with the number of kids that have mastered and retained their basic facts. We also started our graphing unit today. Kids had to come up with a survey question and go survey their classmates to create a tally graph. It was pretty fun.
Student Council speeches are due this Thursday. Kids wishing to be nominated to be one of three class representatives need to tell us why. They need to write and present a realistic persuasive speech telling us why they want to be picked. They heard the 6th grade speeches on Monday, so they know what they should and shouldn't sound like.
