Report cards went home yesterday. Grades were up and behavior was better. Now, as I am sure you saw, writing is the focus. We have been doing writing notebooks all year. We have discussed the same things over and over and over again. Some of your children are still making mistakes. I have asked in many ways for you to check over their work. I know that you may not know all the rules of grammar but surely you know where periods and capital letters go. I read some of their work, and I am wondering if you really think that it is ok. If you are checking it and their grades are still low, please come in and see me for a mini grammar lesson so you may help them at home. Writing is an on-going process. One that needs more than any one teacher can give. It has to be supported at home. I asked the kids today how many of you, their parents, asked them about their letters they wrote to you on the report card. Only four kids raised their hand. My heart sank. Why are you not communicating with your kids? There were so many errors in their writing and even more importantly so many reasons to celebrate with them, or at least allow them to share it with you. Please pull it back out tonight and sit side by side and have them read it out loud to you again. They made goals in there, and it is imperative that you are on the same page as them and hold them accountable. If you do this, please write the word Report Card in their planner for a $50 bonus at tomorrow's check in. I don't mean to sound like I am telling you how to parent, but I was shocked that only 4 kids told me they had a conversation about their report card.
Lastly, March reading calendars are due on Friday. They have today and tomorrow to read still.
B.U.G. club assembly is set for April 6th. Please feel free to join us.
Have a great night!
