AR READ PLEASE!

Happy Tuesday all ready! Woo Hoo, this week is flying by! :0)

Today, we started our new Reading book, Naya Nuki. She was the friend of Sacajawea that was also kidnapped by the Minnetaree Indians when she was 11 years old. She eventually escapes and runs back to her tribe, where Sacajawea stays and becomes part of the Lewis and Clark Journey. It will be neat to see another side of the story.

In Social Studies, we started Montana History by reading the book Sacajawea. We were able to label many places in Montana all ready, and that was only in the first chapter. Oh my! We will continue Montana History for the remainder of the year. We will end it with a field trip to Pompey's Pillar. Students that turn in their completed folder and take their studies seriously will be invited to buy into the trip for $1000. We talked, in length, about my expectations for this.

How are those Operation Egg Drop Packages coming? If your child has started, write the words EGG DROP in their planner for a $20 bonus at check in tomorrow morning. They are due this THURSDAY!

In math, we started adding fractions today. This was pretty smooth sailing until we discovered sometimes we run into big heads at the end. We then have to change it into a mixed fraction. No idea what I am talking about...ask your kiddo to explain!

The writing notebooks are back in action. Today is would you rather drink a glass of 10-month-old-milkshake with green chunks of goodness OR eat a bowl of rat tails and cheese? Why? Pretty gross, but they all love these ones! Again, kids should be using topic sentences, giving creative reasons, and talking about both the drink and the tails somewhere in their paragraphs. Writing must be at least a half a page for credit. They are being graded/shared with a buddy at CC meeting now and they give each other some feed back. I also enjoy reading all of them, and when I see a need I will conference with a child on specific feedback. I will no longer be grading grading them. They must use correct format and have all of them in their notebooks in order to receive full credit for the week though.

Have a wonderful and dry evening. Spring has sprung a leak I am afraid. :0)
