Great End to a Great Week!

Well we made it. Week one is complete. Academics will start next week. We will continue to get to know one another better and review our class procedures during our character circle meetings, but it is time to get down to business as well. Read 180 class will also start Monday if you child goes to that.

There will be homework EVERY night next week, except Friday. Students will have spelling homework out of their books and a writing prompt for their nightly writing journal every night. Spelling words can be found on the side of the blog under the weather channel widget. Test is every Friday. I give ample time in class to finish all other assignments, however, if your child does not use that time wisely that work will be brought home for homework as well.

I have noticed a huge bathroom problem already in this class. I am not sure what the rules were last year, but in my class I expect kids to stay in class at all times. I give them a bathroom break every two hours. Students need to go to the bathroom before they leave the house. It is very distracting when they ask to go twenty minutes after we start school. It also causes a chain reaction. Therefore, unless your child has a medical need to use the bathroom more often, students will not be allowed to leave class for this purpose. They may go before school, at morning recess, before and after lunch, or during our afternoon bathroom break. If it is an emergency, the class knows that they may go. I will not bend on this procedure. If your child has a doctors note please share it with me so I know not to deny them bathroom use. At this age, students should be able to go two hours at a time without using the restroom. Please talk with your child and encourage them to use the allotted times to use the restroom so they don't run into problems later. Thanks.

Starting today, students were instructed on correct dismissal procedures. If you are picking up your child by car, you MUST pick them up on Bench Blvd. Car pick up will no longer be allowed on Kyle or in the main parking lot. This is a HUGE safety concern and is straight from Mr. Senitte's mouth. He will be out next week talking to parents that are not following these procedures. I am sure that you will agree with us that keeping your child safe at all times is our number one priority. Also starting Monday, students will be expected to follow school rules of wearing a helmet when riding a bike, skateboard, or scooter to and from school. If students do not have a helmet they need to get one before they ride again. If you need assistance in this matter please email me or call the school. Again, safety first.

Students were offered extra credit homework today. They were to bring home their rock that they created today after hearing a Native American legend about how the chipmunk got its stripes. They need to retell the story to you, explain the symbols on their rock, and then in order for them to obtain their extra $500 bonus you will need to write a short note to me in the planner on how this went. Fun!!

Lastly, let's talk snacks. Students may bring a daily snack to eat after recess. However, it must be a healthy snack. Candy or chocolate anything is not an acceptable snack choice. Pretzels, hard boiled eggs-already peeled! (I have a fridge they may use), healthy chips, granola bars, trail mix, crackers, fruits or vegetables, peanut butter, yogurt, or items like this are more than welcome. I do not provide snacks for kids.

I certainly hope that you have a great weekend. Play outside and play hard!
