Great Day!

We had a very busy half day. We continued to talk about responsibility and listening in our C.C. meeting. We even learned a new rap song today. I will film it soon for you to see and hear. Then we went on to math. We started to dissect decimals in money amounts. We are talking about tenths and hundredths. Going to the other side of the decimal point is difficult to understand at this age. Whenever you are doing something with money and your child is around, have them tell you how many dollars, dimes and pennies it has. Then they should link that to the ones, tenths, and hundredths place value. Tomorrow we will be counting money using the least amount of coins. Tough concepts!

I have noticed a slight trend with absent kids in my class. Please know that the school rule is if they have a fever or are throwing up they need to stay home. Otherwise we expect them in school every single day. If they can stay home and sit on the couch or hang out, then they can come to school. I need them here. If they get worse through the day, I will have them call home, but try to start them out here. Thanks for your support on this.

Spelling test is tomorrow for Unit 4. We played a game today and it did NOT go well. Please study every night with your child. The words are on the right hand side of the blog and I post them on Friday night for the next week. Taking five words a night is a great strategy.

Kids have gym tomorrow. Please help them remember to wear gym clothes and shoes. They often go outside so sweatshirts are always a good idea.

Don't forget that book orders are due the 30th of this month. Thanks to ALL of you that have ordered online already! Sweet!

Here is the link I talked about the other day for the math practice games. It also has youtubes that show how the concepts are done and taught. So far we have covered standard form, expanded notation, word form, rounding, place value, and value. All of these would be great to review by playing these games, printing and doing the worksheets, and watching the youtubes. Check it out! http://www.onlinemathlearning.com/rounding-games.html

Have a great night!
