Tomorrow is Saturday Live at Pioneer Park from 10-4. Students that attend will earn $500. They can earn a $500 bonus if they come see me in the Candy Shack while I am working during the hours of 1-2. I LOVE Saturday live!
We have been studying hurricanes in science class. Today we paired up with Mrs. Hankins class and made two different hurricane models. With Mrs. Hankins, kids made a model out of shaving cream and labeled the three main parts: feeder bands, eye wall, and the eye. With me they made an origami hurricane that can be adjusted to make it look like it is twirling like a pinwheel. We didn't quite finish them so we will take some time Monday to do that. We will also be finishing up our book and notes on hurricanes as well. Then students will be required to write a paragraph about things that they learned during our course of study. Projects will be on display toward the end of next week. How can you extend this at home? Turn on the weather channel and watch all of the hurricanes brewing out there over the weekend. Talk about them and what the station is saying. You could also watch a youtube online. Kids watched one today about Hurricane Katrina with Mrs. Hankins. Yikes!! If you do this, write the words weather channel and/or youtube in your child's planner and receive a $50 bonus on Monday.
Grade sheets did not come home today as Midterms come home Monday.
Lastly, I sure do appreciate all of you that are sending complimentary texts and emails my way. Knowing that you like what I am doing with your child makes me work ten times harder! It is such a great feeling when I take the time to send you pictures via email or write on the blog every day and I get positive feedback and thank yous. You rock! We make a great team!
Have a wonderful weekend and I hope to see all of you tomorrow at Saturday Live! I leave you with a fun little video we made this morning during our C.C. meeting. Kids had to walk around the room and listen to the song, You've got a friend in me. Every time they heard the word friend, they had to go and handshake and greet one of their classmate friends. Cute!
