Midterms came home today. They need to be signed and returned tomorrow for the $100 reward. Those of you that gave me an email address I will send over a copy to you tonight for your records. Math is the hardest for these kids right now. Chapter one is packed with tons of information. We have place value, value, three different types of forms, rounding, and now money! Yikes. Chapter One test will be next Monday. A review will be sent home for homework. Students that have failed a section have been pulled one on one to reteach them. Now, we will see if it stuck. If not, we reteach again. Let me know what you are seeing at home. There are a million sites on the internet where you can print worksheets of practice problems for every skill in math. Just google the skill and walla...up pop the sites. Most even come with answers. There are also a million youtube sites that will have a teacher explain how to do a type of problem as well. Hey...is that learning to learn????? (Ask your kids about Rusty's message today!)
Ok...let's talk writing notebooks for a second. First of all, are you reading what your child writes every night or at least every once in awhile. They are cracking me up with their personal stories! I am learning so much about them and quite frankly about you too! Hilarious! Secondly, I need your help. There are so many spelling and grammar mistakes going on in these journals. What a perfect way to help your child at home.I often write a skill that they need to work on so see my comments as well. Many, many kids need to write a topic sentence. I often have no clue what they are even talking about until I read the entire entry. For example, tonights writing should start out something like, Dear First Graders: This is Mr. Senitte and I am going to talk to you about lunchroom manners. Then they can go into the details, but they need to reword and state the prompt they are writing to. Thanks for your help!!!
