Ok, so why the beaver pictures when we are done studying beavers? Well, that is the beauty of life long learning. It never ends. Have a discussion with your child and see if you can see a HUGE difference in the two beaver dam pictures. If you can, write the difference in your child's planner and earn $50 tomorrow at check in. If kids were listening today at CC meeting, this should be pretty easy. The bottom picture is a picture of our guest speaker today. Mr. Chase, a science and math teacher at Castle Rock, came to share his knowledge of the Washington DC area. Man, did he share a lot. The kids wanted to stay after school to keep listening. Who knew there were snipers on top of the White House?? Not me! But, it makes sense. Kids get to write a letter to Mr. Chase in their writing notebooks tonight. I am sure there will be some good questions to ask as well as what they learned today. (Hint, Hint!)
Today at CC meeting we discussed the option of forming some homework groups. Kids were given the opportunity to exchange phone numbers in order to call one another to schedule a play/homework date with a NEW friend. They have all week to do this. If they do, and the play date happens please write a note in their planner and I will reward them $500. This needs to be a phone call (appropriate manners apply), a scheduled time made, and they actually have to follow through. This is also great practice for the upcoming holiday breaks where they find themselves bored. They have to plan AHEAD! It can't be a spur of the moment thing, and it has to be with a friend that they don't generally play with already. The key is to make a new friend.
How is that November reading calendar coming? Your child was told last week that they would need to make or print one off the computer. Remember, they need to read at least 600 minutes this month. Read 180 kids should be reading their AR book for this time AT HOME!
Cursive is coming along. Kids need to practice this at home. Along with this, they need to continue to work on multiplication facts 0-12 and their NE states and capitals. Cool!
Cold weather is upon us. Please make sure students dress in layers. I do not allow kids to wear their coats in class. They end up on the floor and that is how accidents happen. I will start to enforce this tomorrow. A long sleeve is wise under a short sleeve, and quite stylish as well. :0) Pants are the thing these days. Shorts and bare legs under dresses are probably done for the year. :0( Thanks for your support on this.
Stay warm tonight and have a good one.
