Why all the sour faces???

Hi there. In reading class, we started a new novel called Owls In the Family by Farley Mowat. So far it has been quite the adventure. As you can see today, (see video below), we tried to be like the character Bruce and eat a lemon like we would an orange. Pretty funny faces. We also looked at some sardines, as he eats sardine sandwiches for lunch. Toby volunteered to be our tester on that one. He is going to report back tomorrow on how that one goes down. PUUUUUUUU!

We also started our new unit in Science today. How does a thermometer really work anyway? By the end of the five planned lessons they should be able to tell you. Today we learned the difference between heat (what you feel) and temperature (the movement of molecules). We got to act like bacon in a frying pan. The hotter the temperature the move we moved and the more heat we gave off.

We continued our States and Capitals in Social Studies. Keep practicing. They are getting pretty good at the capital match, but some still need work on the location of each state on a map. Remember it is a two part test. The test will be next Monday. Yesterday, our guest speaker showed us a picture of FDR and his dog. He could not remember the name of his puppy though. Great google question. Find out, write it down in the planner, and earn your child an extra $100 tomorrow at check in.

Tonight's writing is to pick a NE regional state that you would like to visit and tell why. We have been working hard on writing in class. Kids need to have a topic sentence, good specific details, and a CREATIVE conclusion. How cool it would be to have them do a little research on some cool things to do in the state they pick on the computer before they write so they can be creative with all of it. Just a thought.

Lastly, the sun was out today, but it was not warm. Great job on the layers. Keep it up all week. Peace out!

Ok so the video is giving me grief so I will try to post it again at home. :0)
