Will You Help Me Pay It Forward?

Today in Character Circle we talked about the concept of paying it forward. There have been times in all of our lives that we have needed help from others. Now, it is our turn to help someone in need. For the next three days, we will be raising money for Flakesgiving. This is a program through 102.9 Cat Country Radio Station that raises money to buy meals for less fortunate for Thanksgiving. I have volunteered for this project every year. Every year I see families from our Bitterroot community come to get a box of food for Thanksgiving, so really we are helping out own. Here is how it will happen. Kids will have three options to choose from each day. For example tomorrow kids may bring and listen to their I-pod/MP3 musical devices, bring gum to chew all day, and/or wear a hat to school. Each event costs $1.00 in real money. If they want to do all three things they need to bring $3.oo. If they want to do 2 things then they bring $2.00. All the money collected will be donated to the Flakesgiving Fund. We also talked about how this ties right into our Rachel's Challenge this year, and how one of Rachel's goals was to be kind to others. We also discussed that kids should be using THEIR money to do this. If they do not have their own money we talked about doing some extra chores around the house to earn a dollar. This is the age where kids need to understand that helping others pays back ten-fold. It feels good to help others, especially when those others could be us one day.

We had our states and capitals test today. For the most part, it looked like everyone but a few studied. I will have those graded and passed back tomorrow. Good work 4th graders!!!

Today we started Ch. 3 in math...Multiplication! Today we learned our 0, 1, 2, 5, 10, and 11s. Kids will be tested on them tomorrow. These are the easy ones. From this point on, we will only learn one new set each day. We played three different games on the computer today. I have put the links on the side under Ms. Erickson's favorite websites. Please allow your kids to play these games daily for at least 15 minutes. I encourage you to sit beside them and make sure they are answering the multiplication problems correctly. Cool and Fun. Hey, watch out for that flying snowball!!!! Ask your kids what that means and if they tell you about it, write the word SNOWBALL in their planner for an extra $50 at tomorrow's check in.

Niki, Toby, Hunter and Jordan...please remember your grade reports tomorrow.

Have a great night!
