Welcome to Bitterroot Miss. Butler!!! Our new counselor came in to join us at our morning meeting this morning. She did an extra special lesson on some key points of making and keeping friendships. We tied in the 6 character traits and talked about many, many, many examples of what those traits looked like in our friends, and what it didn't look like as well. Friendship is a skill taken for granted at this age. Friends just happen in school. Students are learning that they have a choice in their friends and that they need to have five close friends in their life and that those friends will change as they grow. Miss. Butler did a nice job in really showing your child what their friends should be doing in their lives. If your child is struggling with an issue at home or at school, we encourage them to set up a meeting with our new counselor. You may also call her and talk about your child and concerns. Here is a little poem that she is giving out to explain just what she does and who she is.
A Special Friend
Sometimes I'm happy
And sometimes sad.
Sometimes I'm scared
And sometimes mad.
When I need a friend to listen,
Someone to understand,
A place to go and talk a bit,
The counselor can lend a hand.
We might read a story
Or play a game,
watch a film, or just chat
About why I came.
When I need help
It's nice to know
That the counselor's office
Is a place to go.

Today, we did some creative writing. We wrote a new version to Rudolph the RED nosed reindeer. Your child selected a new color for Rudolph's nose and had to create a story telling how it changed colors. There were some really creative reasons. Fun, creative times! We will finish those tomorrow. Ask your child to share their color and story with you tonight. Write the color they selected in their planner for a $50 bonus tomorrow morning.
Rumor has it, more snow is on the way. Please make sure students dress warm. If the weather is above zero degrees they are outside for recess. It can get chilly without hats, gloves, boots, coats, and snowpants. Just remember those gym shoes in their backpacks for PE tomorrow.
Have a great evening!
