What a great Monday! We were busy from the get go! Our day started with Miss. Butler, our school counselor, talking to us about bully behavior. She closed the lesson with this poem...
I Am
I am the person you bullied at school,
I am the person who didn't know how to be cool,
I am the person you alienated,
I am the person you ridiculed and hated.
I am the person who sat on her own,
I am the person who walked home alone,
I am the person you scared every day,
I am the person who had nothing to say.
I am the person with hurt in her eyes,
I am the person you never say cry,
I am the person living alone with her fears,
I am the person destroyed by her peers.
I am the person who drowned in your scorn,
I am the person who wished she hadn't been born,
I am the person you destroyed for "fun",
I am the person, but not the only one.
I am the person whose name you don't know,
I am the person who just can't let it go,
I am the person who has feelings too,
And I was a person, just like you.
Pretty powerful stuff. Kids were really engaged and listening while she read this. Bullying is a sad situation, and the kids know that if they run across it they need to tell a trusted adult.
Our afternoon consisted of Jeff the Nature guy talking to us about the difference between hibernation and torpor. What is the difference??? Ask them. If they can tell you then write the words DEAD vs. SLEEP in their planner for an extra $10 tomorrow at check in. Also, ask your child what dormant means. If they can tell you that then add the word dormant to their planner for $10 more. Then Ed the weather man came in and talked to us. We all ready knew some of the things he was talking about, but the tools they use were new to us. It was great to learn something new as well.
Parents, I had way too many kids with their writing homework not done today. They all took a trip to see Mr. Senitte until they finished it while we went over it in class. It is a writing notebook. They know that they do not just fill in the answers on the stapled sheet. They actually are expected to write the entire passage down below. Please help me by checking this notebook nightly. It is also a time for you to have great grammar and spelling discussions with your child. Every child is to bring it home. They do not get time in class to work on it! Do not let them tell you different!
Lastly, thanks for getting those boards and cookie money in. We will be seeing the end results for both of those soon. Kids may print extra report pictures at home if they choose. We will do the required ones at school together this week. Thanks again!!!!
Have a great night!
