Library is tomorrow. Please go put those library books into backpacks right now. Many kids did not make BUG club due to library grades. Each time books are forgotten, their grade goes down.
The Bitterroot Student Council is having a Rachel's Challenge Fun Day this Friday. Students may pay $1.00 to wear their favorite team jerseys, hats, wristbands, headbands, jewelry, or whatever on Friday. It is in honor of the upcoming superbowl (Go STEELERS!) but they do not have to wear these teams. Remember, all money collected for Rachel's Challenge goes right back to Bitterroot Families. The kids have also been bugging me since Christmas to do another fun day in just our class. We will have that next week. I guess many kids got ipods for Christmas and are dying to use them. Be watching for more details.
We watched the video, Miracle, last week. Did your kids talk about it? Ask them tonight what the point of watching it was. They should mention teamwork, the fact that adults are hard on them because they see potential in them, and that even though they don't like each other all the time they need to be civil and respectful at all times. The most important lesson was at the end however. That was to just BELIEVE and anything is possible. Perfect for Ms. Erickson's room don't you agree? If they can tell you any of these lessons, without your prompting, then write the word Miracle in their planner for a $20 reward during tomorrow's check in.
We began our State Report Presentations today. They have really learned a lot. We will continue those tomorrow and Friday. We will also be getting together with Mrs. Hankin's class as one of her students did the same state as your child. They will get to compare their boards and fascinating facts that they found. What, you mean they get to learn even more??? Cool! Enjoy the pictures of those students that went today.
In my reading class today I assigned a Bag Report that is due tomorrow. Students need to write the name of the book, Rescue Josh McGuire, and the author's name, Ben Mikaelsen, along with an illustration on the front of the bag. Inside the bag, and yes all five items have to fit INSIDE the bag, kids need to find five objects around their room or house that represent something about the story thus far. They need to be 4th grade quality. For example, I do NOT want to just see a little bear and the kids say this is Pokey the Bear from the story. It needs to have a deeper meaning and symbolism than that. Be creative. Each object is worth 20 points, and they must explain how it symbolizes the book. Please have them practice tonight at home in front of you to help calm their nerves. Thanks!
This morning, we created a video in honor of our counselor. She shared with us a sheet called Messages From Me to Me. On it was a whole list of fun sayings that we can tell ourselves to pump up our self esteems. Check out the video we were able to create. The best part was Miss. Butler was out sick today, but she received the video at home and it made her smile big time! Way to go kiddos!!
Have a great night. STAY WARM!
