Well, as you can see the volcanoes are no longer dormant. We had a BLAST!!!! And, we could not have asked for a better day to do it. The weather was perfect. I wish I could say as much for the weather elsewhere. Many of the kids came in wanting to share about the earthquake/volcano eruptions that are causing some trouble for the West Coast. We were able to turn on the weather channel in class and watch some of the footage. We talked about how mother nature can be beautiful and destructive all at the same time. I was able to reach our dear friend Rusty, who lives in San Francisco, and he is just fine. Whew!! If you take some time tonight and watch the weather channel for a bit about the Tsunami coverage write the word WEATHER in your child's planner and earn $20 tomorrow. Make sure you watch it together and talk about what you are seeing. There are some pretty scary things going on.

On a more positive note, I heard Mr. Senitte came out alive in one piece at the magic show. I also heard it was a blast. I am sorry I missed it. If you went please write MAGIC in your child's planner and they will earn $500. Also, if you attended the music show downtown on Saturday write your child's favorite instrument in their planner and they will earn their $500.

This week we will be finishing up our MontCAS testing. We will test Wed, Thurs, and Fri for our math sessions. Students need to make sure they are taking their time and showing all of their work. 4th graders love to do math problems in their heads. I am on my tenth year of teaching and testing and I can say without a doubt that this strategy does NOT work. 4th graders need to write down problems and then work them out. They are nervous and they tend to make little mistakes. Kids also need to know that they will not know every single problem on this test. They will know a lot of them, and I expect them to use all that we have learned in class. But, there will be some that we have not covered in class yet. 4th grade is not over, and it is impossible to get through a math book all ready. They just need to do their very best!!!

Well, enjoy the rest of the day. I hope you are outside doing something fun!!
