Hawaii Day was a huge success. The kids all said that they had a lot of fun. I will make a slide show and post it later tonight or tomorrow. We had fun in the gym playing games that are played in Hawaii and in the classroom eating some Hawaiian treats. We also were able to raise a good amount of money for our upcoming field trips. Yay 4th grade! A special thank you to Mrs. Hankins for buying all the yummy pineapple, bananas, Hawiian trail mix, plates, little drink umbrellas and cups. Our class made the punch and brought strawberries. Thanks!!
One thing I did notice during the food portion of the party was the manners of my students. I am sorry to say that I did not hear a lot of thank yous or pleases. I did on the other hand hear A LOT of can I have more and do we get seconds. I also saw many piled plates. We actually ran out of some things before every one made it through the line. May I encourage you to have a discussion with your child about this. When they go to a party or another persons home, they should take just a few of each thing and remember that others are coming in behind them. They should also realize that the food that they are getting was/is donated by someone and that they don't need seconds. Lastly, they should always thank their hosts. At home, things are different, but in society they need to use their manners. Thank you to those that did use their very best manners. I appreciate them and I appreciate you for instilling that in them at a young age.
I will have a sub on Wednesday. I am going to California to visit my sister. It is a half day on Wednesday. They will be doing a lot of activities that have to do with Earth Day as well. Then kids are off until the following Tuesday for Easter Break. Enjoy!
Your kids might come home tonight trying to tell you about our upcoming science project. We finished our three laws of motion today. Ask your child about the trick Mrs. Hankins did with a broom and an egg. If they can tell you what Newton's 3rd law is, write it down in their planner for a $20 bonus tomorrow. Anyway, back to the project. All the rules and directions will come home tomorrow with your child. They will need to construct their operation egg drop package at home. We encourage them to test it at home as well. In short, they need to create a package that a raw egg will sit in. Then they need to decide on some packaging to put around it. All the while, they need to remember what they learned with the 3 laws to help them make good decisions. Their egg needs to remain in tack when dropped off the roof of Bitterroot Elementary. If they really think about what happens to objects in motion they will find a way to keep their egg safe. Again, all the details will come home with your child tomorrow.
Tomorrow we will present our Western Cities News Reports. Kids need to come in their professional news broadcasting costumes. We talked about sports coats, ties, and button up shirts for guys and nice tops and jewelry for girls. They can watch the news tonight and get ideas. Just throw something together at home. Please don't go shopping for this. Creativity always works best. I will film the news broadcasts as well. They were all told to bring home their scripts tonight and practice in front of you. Students that stumble or pronouncing their own words or not knowing where they are will be docked points. They should also have their script mostly memorized so they can use good eye contact. Please ask them to practice for you tonight. Also, they should make you laugh. It is TV and TV is supposed to be entertaining. I met with all the groups at least once and gave them ideas that they were supposed to use. We had a lot of class time to prepare and practice. More fun!
Well, have a great night!
