Flag History

Every day gets a little better and easier in Room 3. Talking is starting to curb, and transitions are getting better. Kids are starting to understand that in the 4th grade we have very limited time and a TON to do. Therefore, please continue to talk with your kids about making good choices. At least daily, I say the phrase...Choices equals consequences. I have so many that are making positive choices. They are listening the first time, transitioning quickly from one place to the other, doing their best work with their best handwriting, and applying all that they know to better themselves. I am huge on having kids go to solutions on their own. Kids come up to me many times a day with problems and my instant response to them is...so what is your solution? They are surprising me how quickly they are able to come up with one. Great kids!

Today we talked in length about the American Flag. We got to look at some of the actual old flags that were made back in Betsy Ross' time. Very cool! Tonight kids have to design their own American Flag as if they were General George Washington. They only have three rules:1. They have to only use red, white, and blue. 2. There has to be 50 stars. 3. There has to be 13 stripes. Other than that...they are on their own.

We were all stumped on what the colors of the flag stand for. What does blue stand for? What does red stand for? What does white stand for? Find out tonight by researching, and earn $25 dollars for each correct answer. Write the answers in the planner.

For an even extra $50 have your child share with you what pattern the stars on the first flag that Betsy Ross made were in. Write the answer in the planner in your handwriting.

Have a great night!

Above is a quick video of one of our daily activities at our Character Circle Meetings. Kids are learning how to do a proper handshake with one another. They are especially working on good eye contact, pumping hands only three times, and saying good morning and their friend's name. They are doing great...as you can see! :0)
