A lot of writing going on!

Picture day went well! If you forgot to send money, remember you can still order online. Check flyer for details.

Today we started to write our paragraphs for the wrap up test for hurricanes in science class. We talked a lot about the parts of a paragraph. In the forth grade we expect kids to use a topic sentence, 3 details, 3 examples of those details, and a conclusion. We also rewrote our letters to Sgt. Fink, as many just wrote a list of questions rather than a letter. Now, we all know how to write a letter correctly. I will be mailing those off this week, and he will be responding back to the kids soon. I am hoping that he hands them out to other soldiers as well to get more responses. So, so cool!

Speaking of writing, I wanted to share with you what I shared with your kids. I did read all of the journals this weekend, but I forgot to have kids star the one entry they wanted me to comment on. I want to start to really work on specific skills each kid needs to work on. So, instead of writing on all of them, I will really comment on the one that they wish me too. I may even rewrite it for them using correct grammar, spelling, and structure so they can see a model of what I am expecting forth graders to do. It will also be a model for you to look at and see what skills I need support at home from you. Please read my comments and suggestions weekly. Thanks!

I hope that kids hung their reading calendars on the fridge this weekend. They need to be reading a total of 600 minutes this month. The calendar will count as part of their reading grade. If your child's calendar is on the fridge in a safe spot, write the word calendar in their planner and they will earn $50 tomorrow at check in.

Lastly, I always have one or two kids each year that wear the ha-ha make fun of school, homework, and teachers shirts. This year, it seems like I have many. I can't tell you what to have your child wear, but I would like to make a suggestion that these shirts are not really appropriate for school. I often find myself asking, what is that really teaching our kids at an early age? Is homework a joke? Is school a waste of time? Should kids want to feel lazy and invisible? I just think that kids that dress for success have a better chance of success. Just my opinion.

Have a fun evening, and tomorrow is supposed to be cooler, so layers might be wise.
