Operation Cookie Drop is on its way. Please send in $3.50 by this Friday. Also, thanks for getting those Social Studies boards. Make sure you are getting the right size. When it stands up straight, it should come to your child's knees. When I put mine together last night, it was a tight squeeze to get all of the information on the board. If kids go any smaller, then they will not have enough room. I am pretty sure we bought out Walmart, so you may want to try somewhere else, like Target or CVS. Let me know if you are having trouble. We will start our state reports tomorrow, but they will not need the board until next Monday.
Today we wrapped up our water cycle unit in science class. Students had to create a working water cycle and place the three types of clouds in their correct location in the sky. We will take our final test tomorrow. Then onto hibernation and dormancy. Jeff the Nature Guy will be stopping in next Monday to give us the lowdown. We will also have Ed the weatherman stopping in as well. He will recap all that winter entails. Man, kids are learning a lot!
I did not have enough time to get writing assignments stapled in notebooks today before I left for Beau's conference, so they have the night off. Please practice spelling tests with them instead OR when was the last time they played the multiplication games on the computer for 15 minutes. WE need to make sure they don't get rusty on those! Don't forget to read, read, read for those January calendars and remember that book orders are due the 28th.
Lastly, kids heard a poem about M&M's and how it relates to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ask them about it. If they can tell you, write the words WE ARE ALL ALIKE ON THE INSIDE in their planners. They learned that all M&M's taste the same, no matter their color on the outside. They were to look and reflect on the fact that people are just the same as M&M's. We may look different on the outside, but we are all the same on the inside, and that is the part that counts! Kids also wrote a Peace poem in honor of MLK, Jr. They are hanging in the hall for your enjoyment when you visit.
Stay warm tonight, and drive safe tomorrow morning!
