I went over all of the expectations today for our state reports. Kids started researching their selected state using the books I got for them. All information will come out of a book. We will find pictures together on a set date. Kids were super excited to investigate their states. Ask them tonight which state they picked and something they learned about it. If they can tell you, write the name of their state in their planner for a $10 bonus tomorrow at check in. There is only 27 days until our Valentine party which has a $500 buy in. Kids need to earn all the money they can!!!
We have library tomorrow. Please help kids remember their books.
Report cards come home this Friday. Please be watching for them.
Many kids are bringing home their independent spelling test tonight for your signature. My hope is that when they bring it to you that you will see the word STUDY at the top and ask them the words. I spent 30 minutes today going over these words and many of them still missed them. Just so you know, many of the ones that missed them were the ones staring out the window. Remember your child has one week to pass each test. At that point, if they still don't pass the test it will be an F in the gradebook. Some kids are passing in two days because they actually take home the test and study it. Then they come back and pass it the next day. These are easy words!! Well below a 4th grade level. Yikes!
Tomorrow, I will be sending home permission slips to view the PG rated movie, Miracle. I usually show this the last day of school, but I think that many of my students will benefit from seeing it now. It is my all time favorite movie! It focusses on a USA Olympic Hockey coach that will not give up on them. They are pushed and pushed and pushed until they get his main lesson. That lesson is to BELIEVE in themselves and as a team. We will view the movie next week. The date will be on the permission slip. There will be popcorn and soda for sale for those that have fake money to spare.
Again, I hope to see all of you tomorrow night with your roller skates on! C'mon it will be fun! Have a great night!
