This Wednesday we will be taking the NWEA Reading examination. It is on the computer. This is the test that they took at the beginning of 4th grade. Now, it is time to see how much they have learned throughout the year. I am very excited to see the results, which I get immediately after the test is complete. I consider this a direct reflection on what I have taught them all year long. Too bad there is not a character section! I have seen amazing growth in each and every child in that area. I am also confident that the students that have worked with me in reading and that are in Read 180 will show awesome growth. There is a certain amount that they are expected to grow, but remember that this test is on your child's level. As they are taking it, the computer adjusts to harder or easier questions. Therefore, it is very accurate when it tells us what their reading level and skills are. This test is one of the tools used to determine your child's placement next year. Kids need to do their absolute best and take their time. If I see kids rushing, I will stop their test and have them start over. Please discuss this with your child. All I expect is their very, very best, as I am sure you do as well.
Hopefully your child brought home their AR book to read over the weekend. Remember, in my reading class they need to read and pass two AR tests before they move to the 5th grade. Mrs. Betts, READ 180, also expects her students to be reading AR books at home and passing tests. Feel free to read it aloud to them and discuss as they go. Make it a family thing. A child is never old to be read too. Especially at night before bed. Memories!
Lastly, ask your child about the slug snow or mayo rain would you rather question. Ask them which they chose at CC meeting last week. Then talk about which you would chose. And, remember that like I tell them you have to choose one. :0) Write the one you chose in the planner and help your child earn $20 on Tuesday's check in.
